You will notice that Umdloti is almost divided into 2 levels by a large sand dune. At the base of the sand dune, is a road that takes you parallel and in between Umdloti's golden sandy beaches, Hotels, Accommodation, restaurants and picturesque side cafes.

To get up onto the Sand Dune ... you will have to drive like you are exiting Umdloti (past Kwikspar) and turn into a road called Bellamont Road - Which is on your right. The road will take you up, through indigineous forest to the top of the large dune. Up here, there are some magnificent view spots of Umdloti Beach from high up with views stretching to Umhlanga. These prime views are excellent for spotting whales and dolphins out to sea ... so remember to bring you digital camera and binochulars, as Umdloti is known to have schools of dolphins swimming close to shore during the ealry hours of morning (all year round). Between the months of July and November, Southern Right and Humpback whales visit Umdloti's ocean waters.
