The Crocodile Creek is situated not far from Umdloti, near Ballito. This operating crocodile farm has approximately 9000 crocs and crocodiles are not the only animals that can be seen but also snakes, miniture monkeys, alligators, leguaans, tortoise, West African Dwarf and slender snouted crocodiles. Guided Tours can be booked / arranged which also gives the oppotunity to people who would like to touch a small crocodile.
Durban Tourism Board awarded the park as a "Premier Durban Attraction". Bird Enthusiasts will really enjoy the Umgeni Bird park as there are thousands of birds and hundreds of bird species to see, including beautiful macaws, elegant flamingoes, toucans, statley cranes and some of the rarest birds in the world. Bird shows and other activities can be enjoyed at the Umgeni River Bird Park.
Further North and inland, you can experience the true Zulu culture of the days when Zulu King Shaka ruled Zululand. Zulu Dancers, Sangomas (traditional healers), beer-drinking ceremonites, spear making and much more at Shakaland Cultural Village will keep you intreaged. Definitly worth visiting!
Whats lovely about Umdloti is that, even though, the little town is quite remote from busy city life ... All the main attractions in and around Durban, are all still quite close. The Gateway is a modern and very popular shopping centre, boating the largest indoor climbing wall in the Southern Hemisphere, Wave Pool, Imax Theatre, restaurants and plenty of shops!
Feeling lucky? ... then head off to Sibaya Casino. The Casino is built with a magnificent african theme and there are also restaurants, shops, and a spectacular theatre to go to.
