The SandBar is the brain child of 4 locals that have lived in Umdloti for many years. After a few cocktails on the beach, one sunny December day, we envisaged a restaurant & bar that reflected a cool, vibrant and fun place for locals and holiday makers to meet and enjoy good honest food, combined with great wines and colourful cocktails. Our philosophy is a simple one: 'Good food, friendly service, served in a relaxed environment'. Combine all those factors with one of KZN's best restaurant locations, then we have one of Durban's best kept secrets (not for long though!)
We have a great variety of South African wines ranging from everyday favourites to more complex international award winners. The SandBar is not only a restaurant but also a 20 seater cocktail bar and lounge, serving the most colourful intoxicating, mind numbingly, delicious local and international cocktails.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated with warm colours & lighting with old images of long board surfers to beautiful photography of past generations. The feel of the SandBar is cool, relaxed with a touch of sophistication and is very welcoming.
We welcome all that come dine with us, to sit back relax and soak up the sea views, good music, great food and wicked cocktails.

Between the rolling hills of sugar cane fields, indigenous forests and KwaZulu Natal's beautiful dolphin coast, lies a quaint, peaceful little town called Umdloti. Umdloti is named after the Mdloti river just North of the town.
The Zulu's gave the river that name because of the Wild Tobacco plants that grew on the sand Banks. Although Umdloti is approximately 25km North of Durban, there is only a permanent population of about 3000 people. During the Holiday seasons, hundreds of holiday makers flock from Durban and all over the country to enjoy KZN's Hot sun, warm waters and Umdloti's beautiful beaches.

Meaning the venue has its own bar on-site with staff serving alcohol/non-alcohol beverages and perhaps "pub-grub" included. They may offer satellite TV for bar patrons to follow the latest sporting fixtures live and may also host live music on certain days / evenings.
If an establishment has this icon, this means they either include breakfast in their rates or offer the opportunity for you to choose to include breakfast during your stay which is usually served to guests in an on-site breakfast room dinette or restaurant.
